 Here is a poetry boo k you will want to read.  Purchase a copy now. Overview Philip Levine was a poet of grit, sweat, and labor. He was born in Detroit on January 10, 1928. At the age of 14, he started working in the auto plants of Detroit. Working in the car manufacturing plants provided him with a lot fuel which will help him write some of the best poems about the industrial world. He worked for Cadillac in its transmission department and for Chevrolet. He later said to Paris Review that he ended leaving the city after a succession of stupid jobs. He also spent some time in Spain. He found a teaching position at California State University, Fresno in 1958. Until his death on February 14, 2015, he was an emeritus professor of English at CSUF. He ended up teaching and touching a new generation of writers and poets all over the world.
